Summers Winery

Posted by staceyblacker

You are doing yourself a huge disservice if you don’t try wines from the Summers Winery of Calistoga, CA.  Right now our favorite is their Charbono and their Cabernet Sauvignon Rose.  Two wines that will make your heart sing.

Tasty Treat of the Week - La Trappe Isid’or

Posted by staceyblacker

La Trappe Isid’or Trappist

The monks of Brewery de Koningshoeven have been brewing La Trappe beer for a living since 1884.  La Trappe Isid’or has been specially created to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Brewery de Koningshoeven.  This brewery is one of only seven Trappist breweries in the world allowed to carry the logo “Authentic Trappist Product”.  This logo guarantees authenticity, recipe and tradition.  La Trappe / Koningshoeven is the only Trappist beer made in the Netherlands - the rest are made in Belgium.  La Trappe Isid’or is a mildly sweet amber beer with a hint of caramel.  Soft bitter flavor with a fruity aftertaste.

Tasty Treat of the Week - Stacey’s Back from CA –what did she bring us?

Posted by staceyblacker

Octoberfests & Pumpkin Beers — Oh MY!

When it’s a glorious low humidity August day, absolutely NO ONE wants to think of cool weather.  Ugh.  But, believe it or not, it’s August and the Octoberfests and Pumpkin Beers are beginning to roll in.  Jump on board the Smuttynose Pumpkin, Weyerbacher Pumpkin (tasty) and Octoberfests from Stoudt’s and Flying Dog — to name just a few.  You can enjoy the smells and flavors of fresh baked Pumpkin Bread and still have the warmth of an August day!

Stacey’s Trip to Napa

Stacey just got back from a whirlwind trip to Napa with a couple of her High School friends (what’s better than that??!!) and had a blast!  The best stop on the trip, by far, was Summers Winery in Calistoga.  We have touted Summers Winery before - we’ve always been HUGE fans of their Charbono but now it’s their CABERNET SAUVIGNON ROSE that has captured our hearts!  Everyone in our group loved this wine so naturally, as soon as we got back, we ordered a bunch of cases to share with all of you!  This Cabernet Sauvignon Rose’s well balanced style shows exceptional varietal character.  The cool fermentation processing of this wine is echoed in the flavor of wild strawberries and tropical fruits.  Aromatics show floral notes and a bright crispness.  It complements a variety of cuisine including chicken, pasta salad and spicy dishes.

Tasty Treat of the Week - Imagine Yourself in Greece Right NOW!

Posted by staceyblacker

Smuttynose Baltic Porter

From Beautiful Portsmouth, NH comes a new beer in the BIG BEER series from Smuttynose Brewing.  Indigenous to Northern Europe, Baltic Porters historically stem from the shipping of British Porters to the Russian hinterland.  Unlike their British cousins, Baltic Porters are often brewed with lager yeast, which is the tradition Smuttynose follows.  Big and bold, with flavors of coffee, dark fruit and raisins, this black beer is as smooth as a chocolate swirl.  Rated “A” by Beer Advocate, this seasonal beer won’t be around too long.
Imagine yourself, for a moment, sitting on the front porch in a picturesque whitewashed house in Greece — Peloponnese to be exact.  The view is astonishing, the weather is postcard perfect, the company is lovely.  What would you be drinking at this exact moment?  A chilled glass of Boutari Moschofilero - that’s what!  Moschofilero (mo-sko-feel-ero) is Greece most important white wine that has been, until recently, virtually unknown in the USA.  This wine is 100% Moschofilero and is a light, crisp and refreshing wine with enticing citrus, floral and melon aromas.  The color is brilliant and crystal clear while the taste is of orange blossom and grapefruit.   Delightful.

Tasty Treat of the Week — Get Your Drink on!

Posted by staceyblacker

You’ve been very patient.  Six months ago we purchased 25 cases of Tilted Palm Bloody Mary Mix on a close out sale.  You bought it all up, all 25 cases, in less than a week.  It is, truly, the best Bloody Mary Mix ever.  Tilted Palm switched distributors so we bought as much as we could to stock up - in case they left NJ completely.  But, alas, you scooped it all up in a few short days and we were left without any of that AMAZING Bloody Mary Mix for the past 6 months.  IT IS BACK!  Tilted Palm is back in NJ and we have a fresh shipment in the store.  At $8 per one liter bottle, you will be blown away by how awesome it truly is.  No need to “spruce” it up — nothing needs to be added — it’s perfect just the way it is!
Warm summer nights on the deck or patio are a perfect accompaniment to Calem “Old Friends” White Port.  With a staw yellow color and a floral aroma and a delicious flavor of tropical fruit, this port will pair nicely with ripe raspberries dipped in chocolate, pineapple chunks, or dried apricots.  Sweet, intense and complex just enough to satisfy any taste.

From Orange County, CA is The Bruery.  Amazing beers made to perfection.  Saison de Lente is their unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian-Style Saison Ale.  Golden in color with a fresh hoppiness and a wild and rustic Brettanomyces character, this Saison is perfect for the warm weather.  It’s light in alcohol (6.5%) so it’s a perfect picnic beer — or maybe a perfect ball game beer — or maybe a perfect everything beer!  This is one you really need to try.

Tasty Treat of the Week - Weyerbacher Fourteen Ale

Posted by staceyblacker

Looking for an inexpensive alternative to Champagne but still want your bubbly from France?  Well then, have you ever tried a Cremant?  This week, for THx4, we will introduce you to Cremant - the approved French designation for a sparkling wine made by the methode champenoise (the Champagne process) but produced elsewhere in France.  Different Cremants use different grapes, or blends of grapes, than traditional Champagne, and generally sell for considerably less.  And don’t let the price fool you - as they are still very, very good.  Stop by Red, White & Brew this Thursday any time between 5 & 7 pm and give Cremant a try!  We may even try some other bubblies and compare!

Weyerbacher Fourteen Ale is here and it is WILD!  This Anniversary Ale is a wheat wine created by head brewer Chris Wilson.  This 11.8% amber beer is silky smooth even when young.  Of course, you’ll want to age some for a few years as well, but check out one now and you won’t be disappointed.  It’s here and it’s limited so snap to it!
