Southern Tier Brews from New York State

We just got a boatload of new brews from Southern Tier.  Southern Tier is one of those highly regarded, highly anticipated, highly sought after breweries.  When one of their new beers is approaching its release date, we always get a barrage of phone calls and e-mails from the “beer geeks” (not to be confused with the “cork dorks”) wanting to know — “is it there yet?”  Well, they are here — some seasonals but, most important is the Cuvee Series One.

Cuvee Series One is a 22 ounce, 11% abv ale that is light copper in color with a slight malt flavor with a mild bitterness, dry finish with a subtle hop aroma.  Tastes of toasted coconut, almond biscotti and toasted almonds with a taste of honeysuckle.

 Trentadue Old Patch Red

Named for the original 1896 plantings, Trentadue’s Old Patch Red has been the wineries staple wine for over 3 decades.  From deep in the heart of the Alexander Valley - the blend composition may vary but it is always made up of Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Carignane and always packs a punch.  A serious every day wine with a soft palate and loads of flavor — the predominance of Zin in the blend brings in jammy, peppery, black cherry and strawberry aromas with spicy nuances.  Tastes of layers of plum and brown sugar.  Priced right for every day but complex enough to perhaps age for a while.  This wine has it all.

Buoncristiani Dolcetto - a small family run winery in Napa, CA

Run by four brothers, Buoncristiani winery stresses quality and pride.  Their wines are as unique as each of the brothers and their production is small yet extremely well made and important.  Rarely grown outside Italy, their Dolcetto is a tribute to their Italian Grandfather.  This amazing Dolcetto is so similar in style to the Dolcetto you will find in Piedmont ~ elegant and rich with an aroma of blueberries.  And its ability to pair with a variety of foods is uncanny.

A Major, Major Favorite

We are expecting our shipment of Troegs MAD ELF any day now and it is always heralded as the biggest arrival of the season — in fact, some consider the arrival of “The Elf” to be the true official welcome to the Holiday Season!  That being said, this year the good folks at Troegs decided to make Mad Elf is 22 ounce bottles — how cool is THAT?  Unfortunately that means that the supply of the 12 ounce bottles will not be as much as last year.  To ensure you get your grubby little elf paws on all that you crave, shoot us a quick e-mail to info@redwhiteandbrew.net and state your desires for how much you’d like us to hold for you.  And if we’re feeling like Santa Claus, perhaps we will humor you!

For those who aren’t familiar with Mad Elf, it is, quite simply, a cheerful creation to warm your heart and enlighten your tongue.  The combination of cherries, honey and chocolate malts delivers gentle fruit and subtle spices.  11% ABV

Honig Cabernet Sauvignon

Honig Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby red in color with complex aromas of ripe black cherry, spicy plum, vanilla bean and toasty oak.  Full-bodied with moderate acidity and rich, supple tannins, the wine offers lush texture and flavors of blackberries, cherries, cocoa and spice.  It was aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, 30% new oak.  The wine is complex, structured and beautifully balanced, with soft tannins to cellar 8 to 10 years.  It has a lingering, velvety finish.  Enjoy Honig Cabernet Sauvignon with steak, leg of lamb, roast duck and Roquefort cheese.

Atwater Block Voodoo Vator

New to New Jersey from Detroit, Michigan - Atwater Block Voodoo Vator is sweet and black with a malty character which is derived from two caramel malts along with a Munich malt to create the smoothest high gravity beer this side of “the pond”.  At a whopping 9.5% ABV, this session beer should be enjoyed slowly and carefully!

Elio Perrone Barbera d’Asti

This is a delicious Barbera, showing structure, a strong backbone and a nice lingering finish.  As Perrone’s entry level Barbera, this wine literally bursts from the glass with an explosion of primary ripe red fruits.  Priced at around $15 a bottle, this wine will continue to improve with age but is worth drinking right this minute!  Rated 89 points by the Wine Advocate, it will pair nicely with a variety of foods — anything from Bar-B-Q to rich red sauces to seafood.
